This page is a good place to start if you or someone you know has trouble reading.  JOMLP helps people who are reading at or below  basic levels.  We work with adults who are 18 years or older and live in the Inkster area.  People who have difficulty accomplishing day-to-day tasks because of difficulty reading may find our programs helpful.  Day-to-day tasks include reading traffic signs, filling out applications, following medication prescriptions, or reading at work.

To help people become better readers, we assign them a tutor.  Students and tutors meet together for at least 2 hours each week at a public place,  such as a library.  Students decide what they want to learn by telling tutors what skills are important to them.  Our programs are free, and student identity is kept confidential unless the student requests otherwise.

New students must call us for an appointment, and then meet with us to take an assessment.  This helps to determine the place to start instruction.  If you need help, please call our office to make an appointment. If someone you know needs help, have him or her call.  We ask that the students call for themselves to be certain they are committed to seeking help.
