Many adults in Inkster need help with basic literacy skills.  They struggle with reading, writing and math, although they have vast knowledge and life experience in other areas.  A tutor helps the student learn to read, write, and/or improve math skills to reach a variety of goals:  reading the newspaper, obtaining employment, getting a driver’s license, helping a child with homework, to name just a few.

If you are interested in becoming a literacy tutor, we ask you to make a time commitment of two (2) hours per week for a minimum of six (6) months.  Tutors are required to complete a twelve hour tutor training program.  No previous teaching experience is necessary.  Our training program will teach you the fundamentals of teaching reading to adults.  Tutoring takes place in a private area of a public place, such as a library or church.

Please complete the following application and submit it to us.  Our Program Coordinator will contact you regarding tutor training classes.  If you have further questions, please call us at
